Understanding Copyright

Copyright safeguards creative works like scholarly articles, allowing authors control over usage. At ETFLIN, authors grant publication rights after peer review and acceptance.

What is copyright?

Copyright is a form of intellectual property that protects original creative work, such as scholarly articles. The author of a work has the right to decide whether and under what terms their work may be used, published, and distributed by others. As a result, it regulates how others use, publish, and distribute content.

Understanding your copyright options as an author is becoming ever more important, especially with the growth of open access publishing.

How long does copyright last?

Copyright in a work does not last indefinitely. The length of copyright varies by country and depends on the type of work. However, the length of a literary work, such as an academic essay, is normally the author's life plus 70 years.

We require publication rights from you in order to publish and make available an article. As a result, authors who publish in one of our journals is already aware and accept an author contract that allows us the required publication rights. This will happen when your paper has been peer-reviewed, accepted, and moved into production.
